Finals Are When???

Yes, once again it is that time to buckle down and study hard. It was nice to have a few days off for Thanksgiving, but it really stinks that we come back from a nice vacation to be greeted by FINALS! It is a very scary time for most, when we all sit down and figure out our grades, mostly what is the necessary grade for our final to get at least a decent grade in the class. I hope all the coffee and Red Bull will help everyone survive those late night study sessions the night before the exam. The only advice I can give to my fellow horned frogs is to cram, cram, and then cram some more. Good luck to you all!

Give em Hell TCU!

Normally I am not that into TCU football, especially after last year's disappointing season. This year however is a totally different story! I can't believe we are doing so well! Currently we have climbed three spots and are now ranked number 15 in this week's division by the Associated Press! TCU is currently one of only three teams in that nation with ten victories. Currently we have won nine in a row for the third longest current winning streak in the nation. After beating UNLV 51 to 3 if I might add, the Horned Frogs are doing great. Hopefully we can keep up the momentum and take the Frogs all the way to a BOWL GAME! That would be so awesome. If only we had not lost to our rivals over in Dallas. All in all, we can go all the way!

Happy Halloween

I know Halloween was over a week ago, but you know what they say, "Better late than never!" So, I just thought that I would share my Halloween experiance from this year. My boyfriend, Jonathan, and I went to a Halloween Party where the theme was "Pimps and Hos" I looked everywhere trying to find a good costume that would fit the theme. Of course I had no luck and had no money so..... We came up with the best idea! We went to Michael's and got letter to make shirts. Mine said "Pimp" on it and Jonathan's said "Ho". To go along with the shirts, we decided to trade blue jeans, so I wore his big baggy pants, and mine were obviously nut huggers on him! We put a Marilyn Monroe wig and lots of make-up on Jonathan, and I did what I could to make myself look like I had a mustache and beard. Anyways, I guess it all turned out ok, and we did get tons of compliments on our costumes!

A Lot Like Love

This is my new favortie movie. I watched it this weekend and really liked it. My boyfriend on the other hand was not that impressed, so I guess you could call it a "chick flick". It is a romantic comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Amanda Peet. The initially meet and are attracted to one another, but they can't seem to meet at the right times. Over the course of seven years they reunite time and time again, and eventually they hook up. It is filled with tons of funny events, including a scene where Kutcher sings and playes his guitar for Peet, he is horrible by the way, but it is still really funny! Long story short, you should really go and check it out!

Anna Nalick: Currently playing on my i-pod

If you have never listened to Anna Nalick's music, you are really missing out. I really enjoy all her songs, and she is a great singer. My favorite is Breathe (2 am). I have to admit, her music might not appeal to all the guys out there, but sh is really pretty if that helps. Her last CD came out in April of this year, but I think there is another one on the way. So, you should really check her out!

Blog Abstract

Abstract
My particular question for this assignment is “What makes a Good Blog?” Furthermore, what initially attracts a reader and keeps them coming back to read more? Obviously this question is important because it is critical to the success of a blog. If the blogger is not writing to keep an audience, then why write at all? To answer this question I looked at three of the top one hundred blogs currently out there, and then compared what they had in common and what made them different. Dailykos, Instupundit, and BoingBoing were the specific blogs I looked at in detail. In addition to these case studies I also did other forms of methodology such as a survey on my personal blog, and looking closely at two authors’ book about blogs, Blood and Hewitt. In conclusion, I found that there is not one specific thing that makes a blog successful, but there are a few key points that might help. Most important is what topics are being discussed, and how they are being delivered to the reader, this is a key factor in establishing and maintaining an audience.

Reflection
While working on this project I ran into a few different dead ends. I was surprised mainly when I was looking for specific blogs for my case studies. A simple Google search of blogs brings so many different types for you to look at. There is something close to 17 million blogs currently out there, and to me that was very surprising. I did learn a lot while doing this project, mainly about rhetoric. For the most part, I am now actually able to define rhetoric. As for the writing and research aspects, I feel as though I now understand how to write a research paper properly. I learned what specifically to look for while doing research and how to write to present research to your audience.

If I had the chance to start this project over again, I think that I would only do a few things different. First of all, I would do a lot more brainstorming and planning of my paper and case studies. Second, I would research a few different questions before deciding specifically on a question for the paper. The biggest problem I had was trying to write a long enough paper about my specific question. Overall, I think it is better to look at all you different options before deciding on one thing specifically.

I think that the project was expalined very well to me; however I wish I had known a little bit more about blogs before starting this paper. I think that if I had a better understanding of blogs then I would not have had so much trouble. For the students next semester, I think they should do some of the same questions that this class did, and then we could go back and compare how they are different, or how they changed our intial ideas. The only advice I can give to them, is to research many different questions before deciding on one to write about. There is nothing worse than picking a topic and not being able to discuss it anymore when you atre half way through your paper. Overall, I enjoyed this project and did learn a lot about writing a research paper and blogs.

Take a look at these hilarious signs!

At least they are honest about their food. Most places wouldn't be that up front!

I think that these dyslexic workers should really consider going back to "shcool"
There are so many paths to choose in life. Which way should we go?

Hurricane Rita

Although we didn't see much action from Hurricane Rita, check out these cool pictures I took of the sky as she was making landfall off the coast. I have never seen a sunset with so many colors in the sky!

What Makes a Good Blog?

For this post, I turn to you my fellow bloggers. I ask the question, "What makes a good blog?" What initially attracts you to a blog and what keeps you coming back to read more? I would love any feedback you have to offer. I appreciate all the help and thanks for your two cents!

That's right, 40 Year Old Virgin. If you have yet to see this movie, you need to go!!! Serioulsy, get up from reading this and go see it. I don't remeber a movie that I have laughed so hard at before in my life! This is by far a great movie to see if you want to laugh, have a good time, or are really feeling bad about yourself! After seeing this you will realize that you aren't the biggest loser in the world! The guy who is a 40 year old virgin definitely wins over you! Just kidding! Really though, if you are looking for a good time with some friends this is definitely a movie that I would recommend seeing.

What About Me......

I decided that I couldn't delay this anymore so...... I am trying my hand at blogging. Honestly, before this class I had never even heard of a blog, but now I am starting my own! I guess I should start by introducing myself.

My name is Natalie Clarke, obviuosly, and I am currently a Sophomore attending Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. I was born and raised in Houston Texas, to be more specific Lake Conroe which is an hour north of Houston. I am the baby of the family, with an older brother Wes who is 25 and an older sister Marissa who is 21.

My brother is living on the Marine base in Yuma, Arizona with his wife Kim. Obviously he is in the USMC, he is in military police. As of now, he is seving in Iraq for the second time. The first time he was there was in 2002 and he stayed for 6 months, this time however he has been there for almost 8. His 4 years ar up in April, so hopefully he will be home soon, the only down side is they are offering him a nice package if he will re-enlist. My sister is currently living with me in Keller, Texas and is a student at The University of North Texas, and at The Art Institute Of Dallas. Here is a picture of my family from last Christmas. Well, I guess that is all for now, but my life will continue in my next post!
